The wheel is back.
Your files stay close.
FloatMe 0.5 uses the radial wheel as its main interface. FloatMe uses a single file shelf to the left of the macOS Dock. Click it to open the collected-file tray; the shelves follow the Dock automatically. Copied files collect automatically; click it to expand the list and drag one or several files into another app. There is no dashboard.

Actions and workflow
- AirDrop, Float, Copy, Move, Copy Path, and Terminal/iTerm2. Reveal in Finder is available on the copied-file list.
- Serial background queue, per-file progress counts, cancellation, results, and error history.
- Copied-file widget with scrolling, multi-selection, drag-out, restored references, double-click to reveal, and clear. Copied images become PNG files; optional text capture creates TXT files.
- Single-key and multi-key shortcuts, a global-wheel toggle and native Dock integration, and automatic result reveal.
- Context-aware drag wheel. Larger option sets use More pages. Hover More briefly while dragging, or click it. Tool choices open a small settings panel for that tool. Missing-engine options, unsupported native formats, and unverified Pages conversion stay out of the wheel.
Bundled runtime
The Apple-silicon 0.5 developer build includes the image, media, document, PDF and archive engines. No Homebrew or separate LibreOffice install is needed on compatible Macs. The helper inventory requires macOS 26.0+. Intel and older macOS need compatible builds; see the complete feature and compatibility guide.
Conversion limits
- PDF-to-DOCX/EPUB reconstructs extracted text, with local OCR for scanned pages. Complex original layouts are not recovered.
- PDF-to-PPTX places a rendered page image on each slide. PDF-to-XLSX places extracted text into editable rows; it does not recover tables or formulas.
- Documents and presentations export every page to an image folder. PDF rendering is at 300 DPI, subject to a per-page memory limit.
- Multi-frame image input uses the first frame. GIF media conversion is separate.
- CSV/TSV export uses a single sheet and does not retain workbook formatting or formulas.
- Text annotation uses a chosen position and color. Cropping and redaction use pixel coordinates. Photo tools output PNG copies.
- Compression targets are validated before publishing. A target too small for the content produces an error; increasing the target may be necessary.
- Video joining normalizes clips to 1280 × 720, 30 fps, and stereo. A missing soundtrack is filled with silence.
- Subtitle conversion retains cue timing and text, without advanced styling or positioning.
- Encrypted/DRM files and archives with links or unsafe paths are rejected.
- System-wide gestures, AirDrop recipients, and Apple automation depend on macOS permissions and the active desktop session.
Preview and sharing
Select files in the tray and press Space, double click or choose Preview for native Quick Look. AirDrop opens the macOS recipient picker for any existing file type. Folders and mixed file/folder selections do not show AirDrop.
Dock and wheel
FloatMe sits in separate shelves alongside the actual macOS Dock. Copy files or drop them into the file shelf; click to open the file tray. Select a file and press its shortcut to open the wheel. Click outside, use centre Cancel or press Escape to close it. The menu has no separate Open wheel command.
Purchase and activation
Dodo Payments handles the $5.99 purchase and delivers your licence. Signed webhooks update the FloatMe licence service and its Cloudflare D1 database. The app contacts only that service to claim an unused licence for one Mac and verify it again before processing and sharing. Already claimed licences cannot activate another Mac. The private activation receipt stays in Keychain. All builds enforce verification. The app includes its processing engines.
