Small wheel.
Plenty of possibilities.
Every implemented app workflow is described here. The example files on this website show the workflow; real conversions, Finder integration, drag-out and system sharing run in the Mac app.
Select, press, choose
Select files in Finder and press your Wheel key (Shift by default). Only the wheel appears; FloatMe stays where you left it. Finder needs Automation or Accessibility access. Supported other apps expose selected local files or a focused local document through Accessibility. Apps that supply native file URLs can also drag files to the wheel. No files selected means no operation. Tool and Action keys default to Command and Control; Settings lets you change all three. Tab changes modes; arrows and Enter operate the focused wheel. More exposes additional options. Center Cancel or Escape dismisses it; hover ticks and cancel sounds are optional.
Results beside your originals
Convert /Test/test.png to JPG and get /Test/test.jpg alongside the unchanged original. Existing files are preserved: a second output becomes test 2.jpg. Each batch conversion saves beside its own source. Combined jobs such as PDF merge save beside the first selected source. Page, clip and extraction outputs use a new sibling folder.
After clicking an operation, controls, progress, completed files, partial failures and errors appear at the wheel position. Drag result files out, double-click to open, reveal them in Finder, or Keep in FloatMe. Close dismisses the panel while a running job continues; Cancel operation stops that job. Recent jobs retains results and errors.
Collect and carry
Drop files or folders onto collapsed or expanded FloatMe. It highlights a valid drop, collects references and expands after accepting the drop. Copying files also collects them when enabled. Select several rows with Command-click; drag them together into Finder or an accepting app. Double-click reveals a collected file; its context menu reveals or removes a reference. Clear forgets references without deleting files. FloatMe is a single file shelf to the left of the macOS Dock. macOS moves it with the Dock; clicking it opens the file tray. Drop files onto its Dock icon to collect them.
Copied images can be saved as PNG captures. Text capture is opt-in and saves TXT. Watching the clipboard does not replace its contents. Clipboard captures live in local app support; ordinary source conversions save beside their sources.
All 26 tools
Search the catalog and try sample controls ↗. Tools show only for compatible families and valid selection counts. Multi-file operations offer ordering controls. Native cropping and redaction use numeric rectangles; annotation adds text at a position.
| Tool | What the app does |
|---|---|
| Set quality, target megabytes, or a percentage of the original size. If a target cannot be reached, the app reports it instead of publishing an oversized result. PDF compression uses an ebook preset. | |
| Read metadata, edit title and author, or remove it from a new copy. Media metadata is rewritten through FFmpeg; PDF metadata is rewritten with PDFKit. | |
| Adjust brightness, saturation, contrast, and rotation. Save an edited PNG copy beside the original. | |
| Add a text annotation at a chosen X/Y position in a chosen color. The original photo stays untouched. | |
| Flatten transparency onto a custom background color and add a 40-pixel border. | |
| Specify X and Y coordinates, width, and height in pixels. Crop the upright image into a new PNG. | |
| Normalize a recording to −16 LUFS with a −1.5 dB true-peak ceiling. | |
| Create a video copy with its audio track removed. | |
| Choose a start time and duration in seconds. Export only the part you want. | |
| Create a new folder containing one PDF for every page of the original. | |
| Reorder, remove, duplicate, and rotate pages with a page list such as 3,1-2,5. | |
| Extract into a fresh folder. Paths that escape the folder and archive links are rejected. | |
| Combine selected images into a PDF in selection order. Each image becomes a page. | |
| Combine multiple PDFs in selection order, preserving every page. | |
| Set a rectangular crop in pixels and encode the cropped video into a new MP4. | |
| Change video speed from 0.25× to 4×. Audio tempo follows when an audio track is present. | |
| Join clips in selection order. FloatMe normalizes them to 1280 × 720, 30 fps, and stereo audio before joining. | |
| Choose a point in time and save that video frame as a PNG. | |
| Divide a video into clips of a chosen duration and save them in a new folder. | |
| Create a violet waveform video at 1280 × 720, with the original audio. | |
| Choose a start time and duration, then create a trimmed M4A copy. | |
| Convert a recording to mono or stereo. | |
| Arrange images in selection order into a grid with a custom background. | |
| Permanently cover a rectangular image region with black pixels in the exported copy. | |
| Cover a chosen rectangle during a specified time interval in a new video. | |
| Mute the selected interval and replace it with a 1 kHz bleep. |
All ten conversion families
Images, video, audio, PDF, documents, slides, spreadsheets, EPUB, subtitles and archives. Explore every output and its limits ↗. The format explorer reflects the app catalog. Unverified Pages and unsupported native Keynote/Numbers inputs stay out of the wheel.
Collected-file carousel
Scroll through every collected file in the Dock shelf or horizontal popup carousel. Click a thumbnail for an embedded preview, use the arrow controls to reach later files, and drag selected files into another app. FloatMe follows the system Dock’s bottom, left or right position; exact alignment uses Accessibility access.
File previews
Select a collected file and press Space, double click or choose Preview for native macOS Quick Look. The website also previews example image, audio, video and document content.
Six file actions
- AirDrop opens the system recipient picker for selected originals. Folders and mixed file/folder selections are excluded. It needs a compatible recipient and does not create a new local file.
- Float keeps file references in the widget.
- Copy files writes native file references to the clipboard.
- Move asks for a destination and refuses replacement; moved results show their new paths.
- Copy paths places full source paths on the clipboard, one per line.
- Terminal opens containing folders using Terminal or optional iTerm2.
Preferences and local state
Widget Settings includes Wheel/Tools/Actions keys, global-wheel enablement, selection-permission status and links, sounds, clipboard file/image/text options, automatic result reveal, Terminal choice, engine diagnostics and history clearing. Recent jobs shows serial queue progress, cancellation, outputs and errors. References and preferences persist locally; interrupted jobs are marked after restart.
Ready-to-run engine bundle
The current Apple-silicon developer bundle includes FFmpeg/ffprobe, ImageMagick and plugins, Pandoc, ExifTool, 7-Zip, Poppler, Ghostscript, LibreOffice and their required runtime libraries/resources. A compatible Mac does not need Homebrew or separate engine installs. Native Apple frameworks provide PDF, image and OCR features. Processing is local once the app is installed.
The bundled helper inventory requires macOS 26.0 or newer. Intel and older macOS releases need compatible builds and have not been verified. The core Swift sources target macOS 13+, which does not establish that this bundled binary supports macOS 13. This is an ad-hoc signed developer test bundle, not a notarized public release. Third-party licenses, versions and build recipes accompany the runtime. Public redistribution also requires corresponding-source obligations to be fulfilled.
Fidelity and practical limits
PDF-to-Office reconstructs content, not original layout or formulas; PPTX contains page images, XLSX extracted text rows. Document/page image exports include all pages at 300 DPI with memory guards. Multi-frame images use the first frame. CSV/TSV exports one sheet. Subtitle styling and advanced cues can change. Exact compression targets can be impossible and then report failure. DRM/protected files and unsafe archive links/paths are rejected. AirDrop recipients, cross-app drag targets and permissions require an interactive Mac session.

Dock and shortcuts
FloatMe sits in a matching translucent file shelf beside the macOS Dock, follows its visible position, and opens its collected-file tray on click. Record a single modifier, a letter or number, or combinations such as Command+Shift+Option, Command+Shift+J, and Command+Option+K in Settings. Each wheel has its own shortcut.
Licence activation
FloatMe is $5.99 for one Mac. Dodo Payments handles checkout and emails your licence. Enter it in FloatMe to claim an unused licence for your Mac. The app contacts the FloatMe licence service, which confirms the completed purchase and licence delivery recorded from signed payment webhooks. The same Mac can verify again; another activation cannot reuse a claimed licence. The receipt stays in this Mac’s Keychain. Internet access is required on launch, periodically, and before processing or sharing. Invalid, revoked or unverifiable licences leave tools locked in every build.
Dismiss the wheel
Click outside the wheel, press Escape or choose its centre Cancel control to close it. Closing a result view leaves any running job in Recent jobs; Cancel operation stops that job.
