A short story.
Your files stay yours.
These notes describe FloatMe for Mac and this website.
Processing
File conversion and editing take place on your Mac using macOS frameworks and local conversion engines. FloatMe has no file-upload endpoint, account system, app analytics, or advertising.
Licence verification
The app sends your customer licence key, a hashed Mac identifier and a private activation token over HTTPS to the FloatMe licence service. It does not contact the payment provider directly. Your licence and token stay in this Mac’s Keychain. Signed payment webhooks provide your customer ID, email, name, payment reference and licence delivery state to our Cloudflare Worker. Cloudflare D1 stores a customer JSON profile, payment and delivery records, a keyed hash of the licence, the hashed Mac identifier and a keyed hash of the activation token. Raw licence keys and raw webhook payloads are not stored in the database. Webhook IDs and payload hashes prevent duplicate processing. These records support purchase verification, one-Mac activation, refunds and support; they are not used for advertising. No file contents are sent for licensing. Failed checks lock tools. No automatic deletion schedule is currently implemented for licensing records.
File access
Conversion engines read the files you choose. They stage results in a temporary folder, then save new copies beside the originals. Temporary work folders are cleaned up after the operation. Move relocates files only after you choose a destination; it refuses to overwrite existing items.
Clipboard collection
While enabled, FloatMe checks for newly copied files and folders and stores their local references. Copied images are saved as PNG files in the app’s local support folder. Saving copied text as TXT files is off by default and can be enabled in Settings. FloatMe does not replace the clipboard while collecting it. Disabling collection stops new captures. Clearing the widget removes references; it does not delete originals or saved clipboard captures.
History, widget, and settings
Recent job titles, source and result paths, errors, shelf file references, and preferences are stored in local macOS user defaults. You can clear finished history in Recent jobs or Settings and clear collected files from the widget. These records are not sent to a service.
Actions you choose
Copy and Copy Path use the system clipboard. AirDrop uses the macOS sharing service to send files to a recipient you choose. Terminal opens the relevant folder in Terminal or iTerm2. The file tray beside the Dock keeps local file references rather than cloud copies.
Permissions and engines
Global drag gestures may depend on macOS event permissions. Pages conversion is excluded from the wheel. You can disable global gestures and open the wheel from copied files or the menu-bar file picker. The packaged build includes its engines and runtime resources. The processing engines require no separate installation. Internet access is required on launch, periodically, and before processing or sharing. Selection shortcuts never expand the widget on permission failure.
The website
The example files on this page illustrate the app workflow. It does not read or process your own files. Fonts, scripts, and the icon are served with the site. No application tracking scripts are included. The hosting provider may process normal request logs. The purchase button opens Dodo’s hosted checkout for FloatMe. No app installer is served directly by this website.
